Employer of the Year 2007

 

Winner: Bulmers Logistics


 

Bulmers Logistics have worked with the Hull ITeC since 2005.  Bulmers Logistics specialises in container haulage, freight distribution port transport services. The group as a whole employs 350 personnel, including drivers, mechanics, container repairers, administration and management personnel and runs and owns over 250 trucks.  Bulmers Logistics employs 21 members of staff at their Hull Depot, of which 2 are currently on an Apprenticeship programme. Bulmers feels that apprenticeships are very important as is it helps to deliver life skills and staff that are professional in their duties. Bulmers is extremely supportive of training and encourage the development of apprentices.  Bulmers Container Manager, Glynn Plunkett on the ITeC apprenticeship programme said “Allowing our staff to gain a qualification during their employment shows them that we support their development and are not just a wage slip and because of this we find it builds up staff loyalty and we maintain valuable staff.”

Personal Achiever of the Year 2007

 

Winner: Michelle Thompson


Michelle joined the ITeC in January 2007 on an Administration Apprenticeship after successfully completing an Entry to Employment programme with Career Choices. During this time Michelle became a mother and had to take some time off from her studies. Michelle has managed to juggle being a young mum, living independently and attending her workplace full time. Michelle has managed to make such an impression on her employer that in June 07 she managed to secure a Grade 4 post within Kenworthy House.  Michelle is progressing well on her apprenticeship with already completing her Technical certificate, completing 2 units of her NVQ and making good progress on her Key Skills Units.

 

Michelle is always punctual and reliable.  She undertakes all work given and is working hard to complete her framework.  She has a lot of determination which has helped get her this far and we are sure she will continue to succeed.

 

 

Apprentice of the Year 2007

 

Winner: Ian Scanlan


Ian started at the ITeC in October 2006 on a Signmaking Apprenticeship. Ian joined Sovereign Signs shortly after commencing his apprenticeship. Throughout his time on the course he has had excellent attendance at both the ITeC and his workplace and has made every effort to progress in both areas.  Ian became employed by Sovereign Signs in May of this year.  His workplace supervisors have commented on how well he has done in the fabrication department and how he has now stepped up to the next stage of his practical training. He can be left responsible for organizing and working from his own production sheets and deals with the welding & fabrication jobs from start to finish.

 

The Key Skills requirement for his Apprenticeship framework is Level 1 but Ian has completed his portfolio at Level 2 and also sat his Application of Number, Communications and Information Technology tests at Level 2 to improve on his own prior achievement.  Ian is on target to finish his framework on schedule if not before his targeted completion date.

Advanced Apprentice of the Year 2007

 

Winner : Richard Owenson


Richard started with the ITeC in September 2004 on an IT Practitioner Apprenticeship which he successfully completed.  He progressed on to the IT Professional Advanced Apprenticeship in January 2007. Richard is employed at Jennings Computers who considers him as a highly valued and trusted member of the company.

 

Richard’s attendance has been exemplary throughout the duration of his BTEC and he has attended above the requirements – no mean feat given the actual distance travelled – (Scarbrough to Hull)  He has also taken on more responsibility in the workplace and undertaken a series of courses / qualifications alongside the Advanced Apprenticeship. Richard’s attitude, sense of humour and willingness to engage fostered an atmosphere of enjoyment and application throughout his colleagues and his high standard of work served as an example to his peers.  Richard has achieved consistency in handing in high-quality assignments eventually achieving a deserved distinction grade.
