Citizenship

The ITeC has introduced Citizenship in the training programme and young people find out about their rights and responsibilities as part of their Apprenticeship Framework.

To find out about some of Citizenship activities during 2005 download our Annual Newsletter.

All learners can work towards the Hull Citizenship Certificate (see left) which can help as part of other awards such as the Youth Achievement Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Citizenship gives you the skills and knowledge to become more involved in decisions which affect you and your local community.

By being an active citizen you can make difference to what to your life and what goes on in your community.

Citizenship is a person’s relationship with the sate in which they live. Respect is an important part of that relationship. Good citizens respect and value the other people around them. An equal and diverse state is one where everyone is valued and respected and no one feels excluded. Diversity means recognising that everyone is different and valuing the differences rather than seeing them as a problem. To find out more about Citizenship at the ITeC download our
Citizenship Brochure.

Citizenship has 3 main areas :

  • Responsibility for own actions

  • Involvement in your community

  • Understanding of politics

FACTS :

In 2001 only 39% of 18 –24 year olds voted in the general election

Young people are often seen as part of the problem of an increasingly violent ,divided and uncaring society.

You can make a difference.
